Not that I don't like new computer chips, lets face it because of Moore's Law states this chip is going to be outdated in less than 2 years

well according to Intel, they are going to release it over the next year, lol that could probably mean what this or even next year. Did I already read somewhere on this forum that someone already got the chip already?!

And beside, no point cooing over it, even if you live for these chips, are you going to replace a $2000+ chip with another one, when the next one comes out?

Bugger the i7, I might skip that and go straight to this, a 6 core AMD Opteron w/ hyperthreading and 34% more performance than its previous quad core CPU's.

WOW 6 core AMD. I love AMD!

It never will end, not while consumers wanting bigger, faster, better are driving manufacturers to develop super-duper CPU's, RAM and GPU's with frame rates 10 times faster than the eye can blink.

I read in the piece on the Opteron 6 core that AMD have begun working on developing 12 and 16 core units, slated for release in 2011 - 12.  Hehe, what's the betting that Intel is working on something similar... and again will beat AMD to the punch?

Won't matter to me any, I can never afford the latest and greatest when it first arrives on shelves anyway... gotta wait a year or so for prices to drop, like when the next model comes out and what I wanted is obsolete in computing terms anyway.  Still, I like AMD processors, have been using then for the last 4 years or so, and I'm quite enjoying the performance of my Phenom II x4 920 over the Athlon 6400 I had

The Core i7 920 would have been nice but was out of my reach with new RAM and mobo as well, so this i7 975 is gonna be right outta my solar system... galaxy, even,  at AUD $2,300 + on its own.  Oh well, I'll get to play with one someday... like when a PC store has one plugged in and ready to go.

Look at the real world video and audio encoding numbers. Game numbers don't mean much with processors because they are almost mainly dependant on GPU.

Plus by the time that comes out, Intel will also release the Westmere which will be on 32nm tech and faster than Nehalem.

Intel is planning more cores as well. Their experimentation with a TON of cores (like 16) is on the graphics processor Larabee. I think at release it will have 8-16 x86 capable cores.

I will be honest, AMD needs a miracle to catch up with Intel.

What is suprising about the reviews is it would seem the i7 920 is very close in performance but at a quarter of the price. So, if you want to buy an i7, the choice is clear.

Thats been the case with Intel processors since Core 2 IMO.

There's never been a reason to buy this if you know the slightest thing about overclocking, just buy the 920 if you need to.

Personally though, I'm an AMD guy. My Phenom II is amazing for the price.

Not to be an jerk, but the Phenom II just slighty beats out a Q6600... thats like a 2 year old processor on 65mn tech... AMD sure knows their stuff...

Let me clarify why I am such an Intel fan

I study processor design and Intel really pushes the bountry on new processes and technology. They have designs that work really well and they know their stuff. AMD has been going downward ever since Athlon 64.

Example: Are car fanatics excited about new Honda Civic? No. It is a great car, great price, great resale value, but nothing really wow. How about new Nissan GT-R? Thats a different story. It is a super car, pushes the boundries of speed.

So I am not just hating on people who use AMD, they are fine, they work and are priced decently. But at the end of the day, they are nothing amazing from my point of view.

I used to be a AMD guy until i got this Intel quad-core.

Now im a intel fan for life. The speeds are just all-out better. I used to always use AMD and had alot of friends that were on the Intel train and i thought no wai.

But you AMD ppl just drop some money on a good intel and see how you think then .

@themadmanazn Umm, the Phenom II 940 beats the q9400 at most tasks, while the 955 beats the q9550. Yes, they can't compete with core i7, but very, very few people need the power offered by it.
